We honor the life of Artra Wynn, beloved Board Member of the Citizen’s Coalition for Change and tireless advocate for Compton. From uniting residents through civic forums to defeating harmful initiatives, supporting veterans, and empowering neighborhoods, her dedication leaves a lasting legacy of service, pride, and community strength. Artra will be deeply missed, but her impact will inspire for years to come.
Black Elders Appreciation Day is now celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May in Los Angeles County, beginning May 17, 2025. Led by Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, this day honors the wisdom, rights, and legacy of Black elders. The Sankofa Elders Project and partners launched the Black Eldering Bill of Rights—a community-driven vision for aging with dignity, care, and belonging. Local churches and groups are encouraged to get involved in this intergenerational movement.
