To our neighbors, community leaders, and concerned residents:

A deeply disturbing incident reported by multiple news outlets has exposed a serious threat hiding within our neighborhoods. On a property in the Compton–South LA area, a man described as a “dog breeder” was found mauled to death by 13 pit bulls he kept on his lot.

According to investigators, the scene was horrific:

  • A “bloodbath,” with the victim attacked so severely he was unrecognizable.

  • Adult dogs and puppies kept in makeshift backyard kennels.

  • Conditions consistent not with legitimate breeding — but with illegal, unregulated operations often tied to dog-fighting networks.

  • Authorities removed dogs showing clear signs of aggression and improper containment.

This case has received widespread media coverage because it highlights an alarming truth: illegal breeders and dog-fighting operations are active in our communities, operating quietly behind fences while endangering everyone around them.

We already face more than enough challenges in Compton and South LA — crime, homelessness, strained public services, and economic pressure. The last thing our neighborhoods need is another layer of violence, cruelty, and illegal activity adding to the chaos.

The Compton Fire Department and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of a horrific dog attack after a California dog breeder was mauled to death in his backyard.

Let us be absolutely clear:

THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. We will not tolerate illegal breeders or dog-fighting operations in our community.

Dog-fighting is a felony. Breeding dogs for fighting is a felony. Keeping animals in unsafe, inhumane, or violent conditions is a felony.

When someone keeps 13 pit bulls in backyard kennels under suspicious circumstances — and the situation ends in a fatal mauling — it is a massive red flag that criminal animal exploitation is taking place.

These operations are NOT “small backyard breeders.”They are hubs for:

  • Animal cruelty

  • Violent dog training

  • Illegal gambling

  • Drug activity

  • Weapons offenses

  • Community destabilization

And now we have the tragic evidence of how dangerous these environments truly are.

📣 WHAT YOU CAN DO

1. REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS BREEDING OPERATIONS IMMEDIATELY

If you observe:

  • Large numbers of aggressive dogs in cramped enclosures

  • Dogs with scars, wounds, or signs of fighting

  • Heavy fencing, tarp-covered kennels, or hidden structures

  • Strange nighttime activity or constant movement of dogs

  • Strong odors, extreme barking, neglect, or visible distress

REPORT IT. You do not need proof — only concern.

📞 Animal Control

📞 Sheriff’s Department

📞 Crime Stoppers (Anonymous)

📞 Local Law-Enforcement Non-Emergency Line

Authorities WILL investigate. For situations like this, residents must consider to:

  • Call repeatedly — not once — until you reach someone.

  • Alert the Sheriff’s Department immediately.

  • Notify your City Council member who represents the associated district.

  • Alert the L.A. County Supervisor for your area.

  • Contact our State Senator and Assemblymember.

  • In high-risk cases, notify local media.

  • Share the concern on social media to raise community awareness and encourage others to watch for similar activity.

  • As a last resort, contact the Citizens' Coalition for Change for support and assistance.

These operations are not minor disturbances. They are breeding grounds for violence, animal cruelty, and preventable tragedies. They jeopardize children, families, and first responders.

This is not negligence — it is a threat to our community’s collective safety.

The Chamber encourages every resident to take these situations seriously, report them to all appropriate authorities, and continue pressing until action is taken. Compton deserves safe neighborhoods, and we will not downplay dangers that put our community at risk.

2. SHARE THIS NOTICE

Illegal breeders rely on secrecy. Our strongest weapon is community awareness.

3. TAKE A STAND AGAINST CRUELTY

Dog-fighting is not a game or a “local culture.” It is violent, organized crime that brings danger to every block it touches.

4. SUPPORT ETHICAL ANIMAL CARE

Adopt from reputable rescues, shelters, or licensed breeders who follow the law and treat animals with dignity.

🔥 OUR MESSAGE IS SIMPLE AND DIRECT

**We must get these illegal operations OUT of our community. We are done tolerating this. Report it. Expose it. Shut it down.**

Our families deserve safe neighborhoods. Our pets deserve protection. And our community deserves better than backyard bloodshed.

If you see something, SAY something. If you suspect something, REPORT it. If you care about this community, ACT.
