MARCH 5, 2024 STATEWIDE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION NOMINATION PERIOD: NOVEMBER 13, 2023 to DECEMBER 8, 2023 PLEASE CALL THE CITY CLERK’S OFFICE @ 310 605-5530 TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO COME IN AND RECEIVE YOUR NOMINATION PACKAGE. The City of Compton will conduct a Primary Nominating Election on March 5, 2024, for the offices of:

  • City Council District 1

  • City Council District 4

  • City Attorney

  • City Clerk

The Compton City Attorney and City Clerk are elected at large by voters of the entire City. The members of the City Council are voted into office by electors in each of the City’s Districts. Registered voters cast ballots only for the district they live in. If no candidate receives 51% of the votes cast for the office, a runoff election will be held November 5, 2024. The two candidates receiving the highest number of votes in the Presidential Primary Election shall be the candidates in the runoff election. If nomination papers for an incumbent officer of the city are not filed by December 8, 2023, the voters shall have until December 13, 2023 to nominate candidates other than the person(s) who are the incumbents for that incumbent’s elective office. This extension is not applicable where there is no incumbent eligible to be elected. If no one or only one person is nominated for an elective office, appointment to the elective office may be made as prescribed by Section 10229, Elections Code of the State of California. The City Charter designates the City Clerk as having charge of all City elections. As the Elections Official, the City Clerk processes nominations for the Mayor, City Council and all other elected seats which govern the City and accepts campaign filings.
